Hi, I am Dave Thomas the owner and creator of The Dave Thomas Honda Collection and I have been working and involved in bikes for nearly 50 years. At 15 I started my motorcycle career as an apprentice working for at the time the largest Honda dealer in the South of England, Harry Gill Motors; who were based in Gosport in Hampshire where I was born and grew up.

During my 4 years as a City and Guild apprentice I won Honda’s apprentice of the year twice, and on qualifying as a fully trained motorcycle mechanic was offered a job at Honda’s head office in Power Road in Chiswick. There I worked for several years running courses for Honda on new models such as The Gold Wing and CBX 1000. I was also one of the first mechanics in the country to be qualified on the CX 500 & 650 Turbo both ground breaking machines of the time.

I also had a role in Honda Race Corporation or HRC as it is known preparing the engines and bikes that took many world titles. In 2002 I set up in a large workshop in Aldershot as part of the Swiftest motor group where I passed the VOSA MOT and qualified as a VOSA motorcycle test examiner.

The business was moved in 2006 to Newbury Berkshire, where it grew and was known for classic and modern bike sales and service. Following my retirement in 2013 I had amassed a large collection of Honda’s over a 40 year period, so I decided to open a private museum dedicated to the Honda mark for everyone to enjoy, the collection changes regularly but currently stands at over 48 models.
